Mountain Brook, AL
An aging kitchen and undersized family room pushed this couple to hire ArchitetureWorks to design and oversee this major renovation. The entire back of the house was removed and enlarged to create a larger family room and breakfast space as well as expand the confined kitchen. The kitchen is open to and becomes a part of both of these spaces.
A new art studio and outdoor shower occupy the space under the new kitchen and family room. Above the kitchen, a second story was added to include a new home office space with great views over the treetops. A new deck and outdoor fireplace connect the family room to the backyard. The main stair was originally located at the front door but was relocated to a more central location in the house. This created a larger entry foyer and better connection from the basement garage to the kitchen.
