ArchitectureWorks is honored to be a part of the Gulf Coast Engineering Research Station, a new facility for the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University located in Orange Beach. The project just broke ground in July and is funded by the RESTORE Council to support coastal resilience, research, and outreach. The two-story, 18,000-square-foot building includes laboratories, offices, and meeting spaces, as well as outdoor decks that overlook the water. The project reflects a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, academic collaboration, and long-term investment in Alabama’s coastal communities.

We’re excited to share a preview of the new univ

We’re excited to share a preview of the new universally accessible pavilion coming to Red Mountain Park! The structure will anchor the upgraded Frankfurt Drive entrance and provide shade and rest for visitors. This design features durable materials and an open-air design that connects to the surrounding trail network. The pavilion includes single-occupant, caregiver-friendly restrooms, water stations, and flexible space for small gatherings or educational moments along the way.

Construction begins this fall, with completion expected by the end of the year. We're grateful to collaborate with Jefferson County Greenways and Innovate Alabama Network on a project that expands access to nature while honoring the spirit of the park.

We’re proud to share that the Kayser/Samford Com

We’re proud to share that the Kayser/Samford Community Commons at Indian Springs School received a Citation Award at the AIA Birmingham Design Awards. Designed in partnership with Lake|Flato, this project supports student life through architecture that prioritizes indoor-outdoor connectivity and natural light. The jury complimented the extended overhangs and the way the tiered roofs “slide into the sky,” as well as the thoughtful balance of structure, acoustics, and light.

ArchitectureWorks is honored that the Gulf Coast Ecocenter received the Honor Award in the Small Projects category at last night’s AIA Birmingham Design Awards ceremony. Designed in collaboration with WATERSHED, this project reflects a shared commitment to building with care, intention, and respect for place. The jury’s decision was unanimous, calling the project, “an outstanding example of practicing what you preach that inspires us to build durably by treading lightly and quietly. The passive design harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding ecosystem.”

Meet our talented summer interns, Kaylin Denton and Sara Zachman-Meister!

Kaylin is entering her final year of Clemson’s two-year master’s program and is excited to learn the full process of architecture, from design to contract administration, especially during on-site visits. In her free time, she loves crocheting and making music.

Sara is starting her second year in a three-year master’s track and has been diving into new skills like Revit while experiencing every phase of projects here at ArchitectureWorks. She enjoys building physical models, reading, and hanging out with her energetic Doberman, Kanela.

We’re excited to have these creative and driven interns on our team this summer. Welcome, Kaylin and Sara!

Today we celebrate the grand opening of the Gulf C

Today we celebrate the grand opening of the Gulf Coast Ecocenter in Gulf Shores, Alabama. A new hub for experiential environmental education and sustainable tourism, the Ecocenter is designed in partnership with WATERSHED, the City of Gulf Shores, and the Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism and Sustainability. The facility was funded through the RESTORE Act to support long-term ecological and community resilience along the Gulf Coast. The 12 acre campus features over 17,000 SF of education spaces including open-air classrooms, teaching gardens, an adventure challenge course, and maker spaces - all designed to foster connection with the land and one another.

The project, shaped through a collaborative, stakeholder-led process, is pursuing LEED Gold and FORTIFIED Commercial Silver certifications.
