SawWorks Studio

A place to build community

Dick Pigford founded ArchitectureWorks to foster a community dedicated to “Architecture, Community, Leadership, Quality, and Service.” We not only strive to make inspired places, but also we want to be a positive influence in our neighborhoods and cities. We continually endeavor to make a positive difference in the world through our work, our client relationships, our commitment to community, and our respect for the natural environment. Alongside ArchitectureWorks, Dick created SawWorks with the intention of providing an inspiring place for diverse community groups to come together in collaboration. SawWorks occupies an adjacent 3000 SF meeting space, adjacent to the ArchitectureWorks Studio, connected by a courtyard.

Over the last twenty years, many diverse groups have utilized the SawWorks space. One of the first groups to meet in the space on a regular basis was Friends of Railroad Park (FORRD) as they planned one of the most successful downtown community collaborations in recent Birmingham history. Other community groups over the years include Co-Starters, Main Street Alabama, Birmingham-Southern College Hess Fellows, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Birmingham Museum or Art, United Way, Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham, Cahaba River Society, and many more. Alabama Center for Architecture holds its annual dreamArchitecture Awards Ceremony in the space. The program gives elementary aged children opportunity to learn about Architecture through a themed art program.
