After working for some time in an assortment of temporary facilities, the City of Gardendale, AL approached ArchitectureWorks about designing a one-stop shop for all the services of the Administration, Inspection, and Chamber of Commerce departments. Organized like a central spine, the welcome Lobby and Council Chambers are flanked by the Administration and Inspection departments to the left and right. Traditional materials such as brick, stone, and stucco clad the exterior, and the interior is characterized by highly-crafted wood millwork, wainscot, and ceiling details. Mature trees line an existing creek along the back of the site, and every office takes in a view to the exterior.
ArchitectureWorks took great care in every detail, from ensuring the new building would accommodate filing and storage needs, to designing the Council Chambers’ desk so that each member could see and be seen, and to selecting furniture that would meet the client’s aesthetic and budgetary wishes.
